Caffeinating in LA County: Part 1

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

Just to clarify, because it is understandably confusing, City of Los Angeles is one of the cities in the County of Los Angeles, aka Greater LA. This is why "I live in LA" is almost always followed by "Where in LA?". And even if you live in the City of LA, aka City of Angels, aka El Pueblo De Los Angeles, the city is so big you'll still get the "Where in LA?" question.

Now that I got that out of the way, this blog post, or list, is for coffee outside of LA City, but is still in LA County. If you're looking for coffee in the City of LA, check out my other posts:

108 N Alameda Street, Compton California 90221

(310) 933-8773

This awesome local coffeeshop serves fantastic coffee made from beans that they roast themselves. They have beautiful and large indoor and outdoor spaces to sit down and work or hang with your friends. They have lots of merch and the friendliest baristas. With purposefully curated videos playing on their monitors, the vibe works for me

RAD Coffee (Multiple Locations)

Covina, Upland, Long Beach

RAD Coffee, short for Roast and Destroy, is serving up some really killer coffee in LA County, outside of City of LA. Since LA is more than just, you know, LA. The space is nostalgic for 90s kids like me (not born in the 90s, just formed by it) and is super fun.

DASH Coffee Bar (Pasadena)

912 Union Street, Pasadena CA 91106

(626) 817-9006

This coffee shop is easy to find. Parking is easy too as the street in front of the shop isn't busy and they also have their own free parking lot. The breakfast selections are warm, yummy and super filling and the coffee is amazing!!! The space is pretty too.

U Crave (San Fernando)

110 Maclay Avenue, San Fernando CA 91340

(818) 617 - 0154

City of San Fernando is beautiful and this large and inviting café fits perfectly with the family-centric jubilant vibe of this city. This place not only serves up good coffee for the area, but their food and bakery selections make it a great place for brunching!

Dialog Cafeé (West Hollywood)

8766 Holloway Drive, West Hollywood CA 90069

(310) 289-1630

Dialog Café has great espresso drinks and great breakfast foods. It is a great spot to people watch and it's well placed for some good walking after.

Coffee & Plants (Pasadena)

62 West Union Street, Pasadena CA 91103

I can't find a shop that would speak more to the younger crowd than this. It's vegan, it serves good coffee that they roast themselves aaaaand they have a lot of indoor plants that are also for sale. The entrance to the coffee shop, and wherever else they could logically squeeze it in, are festooned in greens and blooms (not all real though). Shoutout to my niece Nicole F. for referring this to me.

El Segundo, Multiple Locations

Another great local coffee roaster. Their warehouse has plenty of space to hang and work and is wonderfully industrial - complete with their roasting equipment.

(Multiple Locations)

Super strong espresso served up in multiple shops from LA's beach cities with awesome beach vibes. Seriously, the artwork, the space, the design... very SoCal.

Various Locations

Aussie-style coffee via New York. When I first heard about Bluestone opening in LA, it was only at Santa Monica and we made a point of visiting it... and it's right next to Sidecar Doughnuts too! Now, Bluestone Lane managed to open locations where most people visit: Studio City, Brentwood, Westwood Village, Venice Beach. Awesome lattes, but what got me excited was their Milo Drink. Milo! Same one we drank as children in the Philippines! For those who don't know, it's a malt chocolate drink similar to Nesquik -- but better!

Various Locations

Another great local roaster serving up great espresso drinks in the west side and South Bay. They open early which is a huge plus! Free large parking lot too.
