Caffeinating in LA: Melrose

So we noticed there are a lot of coffee shops on this short yet fantabulous street. Made a sweet list of coffee shops on Melrose here.

I can't, in good conscience, make a list without including Alfred. He who made the catchphrase "But first, coffee". He who also make mustache cups a thing. He who had an entire wall dedicated to Compartes Chocolatier, one of my favorite chocolatier. The cool thing is that they also make one of the best matcha lattes in town. Their coffee is reliably strong. So strong in fact, that I wouldn't suggest ordering a macchiato if you're of a weaker disposition.

The best Hot Chocolate so far! Also, shoutout to the Pinoys out there: They serve a "Pogi Burrito" which is a Filipino-inspired breakfast burrito with longganisa (sweet Filipino pork sausage) and sinangag (garlic fried rice). Also, the hopscotch on the entrance ramp will literally make you skip every time you enter.

Their Gibraltar is not only rich, smooth and strong, it also comes in this very cool clear skull-shaped espresso cup. I admit, I ordered it for the cup, luckily for me, it's actually good. Their latte and hot chocolate are also good. Being in a small shopping meter with its own free parking space helps a lot on Melrose Ave.

Ligth and expansive space sure makes you feel better as soon as you walk in. And then you get that first sip of their Liverpool Latte... ahhhh... feels light inside too! Thank you for having a large free parking lot next door.

Small space with good coffee. And they have a quaint little patio where you can enjoy your coffee too! I know I keep mentioning parking lots, but we're on Melrose Ave. f you've been, you'll know that parking in an actual parking lot is a treat.

Coffee with attitude. The attitude was immediately apparent before you even enter the shop with this sidewalk sign making it clear that they're going to do their own thing, whether you like it or not. By the way, entrance to the shop is the same as the entrance to the boutique. Good strong coffee. Different quotes on the cups. Sassy phrases strewn around willy-nilly. Aaaaaannnnnd... they have a sizable outdoor dining area in the back.

It was right there on their blackboard menu: Famous Egg Sandwich. I had to order it. And yeah, it's like the egg sandwich my mom made... leveled up! Mainly because the bread is like a baguette, the egg portion was generous and that tomato added to it.
