Caffeinating in LA: Part 2

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

We're in the midst of a pandemic and one of the few places we can go to are coffee places. Aaaah, caffeine. Keeping workers working for generations and generations. So to mark the times, and to give credit to local coffee places here in LA, here's the sequel to my previous Caffeinating LA post.

56 Windward Ave, Venice

12430 Washington Blvd, LA (MDR/Culver area)

Before the pandemic, Menotti's on Windward created a quiet space in the middle of bustling Venice Beach boardwalk to enjoy your cortado. And enjoy your cortado you will because theirs is a must-try. Because of the coronavirus, there is an outdoor dining set-up but no worries, the coffee is still fantabulous and now, they have a Washington Blvd location too.

1129 Glendon Ave, Westwood Village

Espresso Profetta is a gem hidden on quiet Glendon Avenue in Westwood Village. They have quietly been caffeinating the local neighborhood and bruins for decades and the awesome quality is why they're still around.

1636 Silver Lake Blvd, Silver Lake

Lamill is a local roaster hidden gem on Silver Lake Blue near the reservoir. I know I just repeated myself and called this place a hidden gem too, but this really is! Great coffee, great espresso drinks, great loose leaf tea, great food and great space! When we all open up again, Lamill should be on your list to visit or revisit.

Walk up to the bar at GGET to order.

230 N. Larchmont Ave, Larchmont Village

Found out about this Larchmont coffee place walking towards and away from one of my favorite ice cream places. Here's a tip: Get a scoop from Salt N Straw and make an affogato out of your GGET espresso shot.

317 S. Broadway Unit C19, official address

328 S. Hill Street, use this to find their location

If you like Go Get Em Tiger, then you will definitely like G & B Coffee since it's from the same LA company. That's how I found out about it! Conveniently located on the Hill Street entrance of Grand Central Market in Downtown LA, they have a couple of spots reserved at the curb for a quick, “order and go”.

727 N. Broadway, Chinatown

Molecular biologist turned barista = best black house coffee in town! Hidden in Chinatown’s Far East Plaza Shopping Center. They have quietly been serving great tasting coffee for years. Howling Rays across the aisle got a lot of hype, but endorffeine is not to be ignored. Keep coming back for different coffees.

4334 Sunset Blvd, Silver Lake

If ever the time comes when we can enjoy indoor dining again, I hope we can enjoy Dinosaur's great selection of loose leaf tea and espresso drink selections in their light and airy space. Children and tea-lover friendly!

5648 Hollywood Blvd, East Hollywood

You can enjoy more than their strong espresso drinks here. Their fresh squeezed juice is great and the avocado toast kicks ass. Really, it does. The chili flakes on that avocado toast is no joke.

3206 W. Sunset Blvd, Silver Lake

Modern desert esthetics at work here. Your Instagram feed is waiting. The drip coffee here is great too. I'll need to come back and try their more popular signature drinks.

334 S. Main Street Kiosk #1, DTLA

So that's the listed address, but you'll have a hard time finding Tilt Coffee on Main Street coz it's not there! Where the shop should be based on the address, you will find some sort of tunnel (it's not a tunnel, it's an entrance) to the courtyard beyond the apartment building and find this little gem truly hidden in the middle of a secret garden. You must try this cloud thing they have going. It is truly delicious. And they have options for the kiddos too!
