Our coffee journey in LA City continues. This is part 8 of my list of must-try coffee places in the City of Angels and I am very excited about this list.
I have separate lists for LA County, but not LA City, and another for Orange County coffee places.
More to come!!!
710 South Santa Fe Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90021

Kodo Cafe sprang from the dodo restaurant in Downtown LA's Art's District. This minimalist aesthetic cafe operates during the day at the front and the restaurant at night at the back. Now they have a hotel! Based on the menu, I believe this is a matcha cafe. They offer coffee espresso too, but matcha is the star here. And boy do they make great matcha drinks.
Casavieja Store
Grey Store
When I first visited The Boy and The Bear, I only knew about what is now known as the Grey Store location on Washington Blvd and they were using Heart Coffee Roasters. Now, they roast their own beans and they have multiple locations. They continue to deliver strong, tart, creamy, and absolutely delicious espresso drinks. Their Casavieja Store is a high-ceilinged, glass-fronted room in front of a furniture store. It's a great laptop cafe with friendly baristas and strong wifi.
This newly opened local coffee shop in the San Fernando Valley near Cal State University Northridge is a welcome addition to the community. They use Canyon Coffee beans and they make delicious and well balanced espresso drinks.
This cheerfully aesthetic cafe has multiple locations and have an extensive and delicious looking menu that we still have to get through. In the meantime, I am glad to report that their "plain" espresso drinks are actually really good and strong. Definitely more than just looks and definitely worth a visit.
Cognoscenti DTLA
868 South Olive Street, Los Angeles, Ca 90014
(213) 221-7679
I know I mentioned the Culver City Cognoscenti Coffee in a previous part, but I figured it's worth mentioning again as there are, not one, but two! branches in Downtown LA. The South Park location looks like it shares a space with a restaurant. Another café by day, restaurant by night. But this laptop and coffee shop has good bracing coffee and fantastic baristas.
950 E 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90013
Boxx Coffee Roasters Co. created a large and beautiful space for a DTLA Arts District visitor to sit down in and relax. The roasting operations is present and visible to guests lounging from any seat in the house. The space reminds me of photos of old European cafes, maybe because they have Turkish roots. That wasn't a guess, by the way, ibriks are proudly displayed in here. Enjoy the coffee, the vibe, the space, the plants and the people.
3 Thyme Coffee and Herbs
600 South Harvard Blvd. Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90005
(213) 568-3435
3 Thyme Coffee and Herbs is a welcome haven in the middle of LA's bustling Koreatown. The warm lighting invites you to settle into one of their comfy leather couches. The barista's warm greeting will make you want to stay longer. The delicious herby drinks will warm you up from the inside.
11728 W Olympic Blvd.Los Angeles, CA 90064
Motoring Coffee rose from and is separate from the Motoring Club. But don't let that stop you from visiting this cafe. They have great coffee and matcha drinks and the patrons are car enthusiasts so it's a fun experience just to look for an available parking space in the surrounding streets.
Laveta
318 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
This minimalist, yet cozy coffee space in Echo Park is a cafe that you must visit with your girlfriends. Interestingly enough, because it's minimalist, your boyfriend won't feel uncomfortable either. But more importantly, you must visit for the coffee because their espresso drinks were brewed deliciously.
555 Mateo Street, Suite 313, Los Angeles CA 90013
(213) 947-3500
This is an update since I've mentioned Eightfold 's Echo Park location in Caffeinating in LA Part 3 but this DTLA Arts District location is such a beautiful space in a happening location, I had to give an update.
