Fort Bragg Day Trip

Updated: May 14, 2021

So many things to see and do in Fort Bragg. For a tourist like me, Fort Bragg is probably the biggest city in Mendocino County.

Things to See and Do

Fort Bragg is the home of the famous Glass Beach. Though the glass is not as abundant as in years past, it's still worth a visit, and not just because of the glass. The hike is easy, the view is fantastic!

It's amazing how they recreated the entire town in miniature here. Come see local history come alive in this unassuming expert hidden behind the Skunk Train depot. The people managing it were so friendly, helpful, and informative.

Using local redwoods to highlight the community's major industry at the time, and designed in the height of Victorian-style fashion, also at the time, Guest House Inn Museum is a beautiful piece of history. Part of the exhibit highlights the region's indigenous population. The volunteer docent is fantastic and oh so friendly. He was great with the kids too!

Small and packs a whale-sized punch. A complete whale skeleton is on display and plenty of interactive activities and displays to keep both adults and kids entertained! So much science in one room.

Skink Train is a great way to view the various sceneries of the area and get some local history too. It will take you from the coast through a redwood forest to inland Willits. Taking the train is great when you have to deal with a stroller, or multiple kids, or you have senior citizens with you. It's also great if you just plain want to take a break from driving.

Places to Eat

Start your day with a hearty breakfast from Eggheads Cafe. Pre-pandemic, the line to get in this cafe is long. And if you need more than food to fuel your day, A Frame Expresso is a great place to go.

Stop by Cow Lick's Ice Cream for a great tasting snack. Or maybe grab a cookie from Mendocino Cookie Company located at the . Or why not both!
