Mendocino Coast Model Railroad & Historical Society

Updated: Mar 10, 2021

Mendocino Coast Model Railroad & Historical Society is a free site manned by friendly train enthusiasts passionate about this project.

So what is this project exactly?

This historical society aims to bring the local loggers and the railways that served the industry to life. They bring Mendocino Coast history alive by creating a to-scale model of the town, the buildings, and the railways.

I really love how they created a miniature of Fort Bragg's Main Street and there are miles of train tracks running through and around the "town". The tracks extend outside of the "train depot" where the miniature Main Street is housed, and travels around to other "towns", the coast, and through the redwoods before it circles back around to "Fort Bragg".

The "train depot" is littered with plaques detailing local stories that bring the town, the miniature and the local history to life. So much history - and I am so glad - after all, beauty is only skin deep. Knowing this town's history made me appreciate it even more.

One of these plaques tell the story of "Boomer Jack" the independent dog who travelled up and down the coast with the train and the loggers. You can see him on top of one of the trains, read about and see a photo of him on one of the plaques.

I couldn't actually find a proper address for you to google the directions, sorry. But the historical society is conveniently located behind the skunk train station, for which the address is listed below.
