Palm Springs Art Museum: Like A Tardis For Artwork

Updated: Sep 7, 2020

101 Museum Drive, Palm Springs CA92262

When I saw the front entrance the night before, I thought to myself, "Well, this looks small. I bet it won't take long to go through it."

Boy was I wrong.

This museum is much larger than it appears on the outside - hence the title.

Palm Springs Art Museum has a very interesting collection of art - Western, Modern, Impressionist and much more.

I saw some pieces that made me question someone's credibility in acquiring some of the pieces -- like that large black garbage bag in the middle of the upper level. OMG what was that about? But then I read the description and my opinion did a complete 180. Whoever made this "garbage bag" is genius!

The building itself is a beautiful piece of post-modern architecture. All that concrete could have been ugly but somehow, it did not. Is it the lighting fixtures? The persimmon-colored carpet and giant cushions? The lighting? All of the above?

One of the beautiful surprises I found here was the sculpture garden. The sculptures were great and the garden itself was beautiful. The pool was reminiscent of a 50's garden cocktail party. Where's my martini?! Except there was a DJ on site, making the space just plain cool.

When you visit, try to go when The Persimmon Bistro is having their cocktail brunch. The hospitality and ambiance is so warm. The Bistro is located on the lower level and opens up to the sculpture garden. It's also, wonderfully, located next to the Ampitheater.
